It has been revealed that EA Sports and FIFA have formally severed their partnership.
The significant change for next year was long rumored, but Cam Weber, EVP, Group GM, EA SPORTS & Racing, confirmed it in a statement on the official EA Sports website.
In the “exciting new age,” the game will be known as “EA Sports FC,” while exclusive licenses and collaborations will remain. More information will be released later this summer.
Since FIFA 95, EA and FIFA have had an almost 30-year relationship, with the series reaching dizzying heights and yearly editions developed, distributed, and loved by millions of players.
The Premier League, UEFA, and Nike will all be associated with EA Sports’ football game, with FIFA 23 being the game’s final incarnation.
“This new autonomous platform will open up new possibilities for innovation, creation, and evolution.” “This is much more than a symbol change; as EA SPORTS, we’re committed to making EA SPORTS FC a symbol of change,” Weber said in a statement.
“We’re committed to reinvesting significantly in the sport, and we’re pleased to collaborate with a growing number of partners to develop new authentic experiences that bring joy, inclusivity, and immersion to a worldwide community of fans.” I want to provide additional details about these initiatives in the next few months.
“EA SPORTS FC will enable us to accomplish this vision and much more… but not before we offer our most expansive game to date with our current naming rights partner, FIFA, for another year.” We’re working hard to make the next FIFA the finest one yet, with more features, game modes, World Cup material, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any previous FIFA title.
“We’re tremendously eager to work with all of you to shape the future of global football, and we’ll be happy to share more information about EA SPORTS FC in summer 2023.”
“The sport’s future is quite bright, and football fandom has spread to every corner of the globe.” Global football has been a part of EA SPORTS for nearly three decades, and we’re making sure it stays that way for decades to come. ”
Weber previously stated that EA was examining their naming rights arrangement with FIFA, and that the company had filed trademarks in the UK and EU, implying that the relationship would be terminated.
EA Sports, the world’s most popular football video game, has over 300 separate license partners, giving it access to over 19,000 players and 700 teams, over 100 stadiums and 30 leagues, as well as the Champions League and Europa League events.
The current deal between EA Sports and FIFA, which was to end after this year’s World Cup in Qatar, has been adjusted to run through to the Women’s World Cup next summer. Once that tournament is over, the company said, 150 million FIFA video game players will have to get used to the new name “EA Sports FC” for the series.
