iCarly is an American teen sitcom created by Dan Schneider that ran on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012. This series follows Carly Shay (played by Miranda Cosgrove), who hosts her own homegrown web show iCarly, along with Sam Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy) as her co-host, and Freddie Benson (played by Nathan Kress) as the show’s technical producer. Spencer Shay (Jerry Trainor) is Carly’s older brother and legal guardian.
Although the show’s final episodes aired last 2012, iCarly remained in people’s memories. Many individuals may remember the impact that iCarly has given to the world. From providing laughter during afternoon breaks to touching lives in every heart-wrenching episode, this sitcom has become one of the world’s well-loved television shows. Thus, after nine years, iCarly officially returns to the screens, activating nostalgia and bringing back memories of the past. This fan favorite is set to take the hearts of many, bringing the same slapstick humor to the modern world.
Although the reboot of iCarly has some stark differences, this former tween favorite possesses the same charm it has held over the years, reminding fans of the original series that previously aired on Nickelodeon. As much fun as its return is, there are gaping holes, such as the absence of Jennette McCurdy (who plays as Sam Puckett in the series), who has chosen not to participate as the actress has retired from the industry years back. While this absence makes the reboot slightly different from its original, the series still acknowledges her presence, consistently mentioning her character, Sam, throughout the show.
Additionally, new characters have emerged in the shape of Harper (played by Laci Mosley), who is Carly’s current best friend and roommate, and Millicent (played by Jaidyn Triplett), who is Freddie’s snarky and tech-savvy stepdaughter. According to Variety, the revival series contains thirteen episodes that focus on Carly’s life in the twenties, dealing with work, love, friends, and family while rediscovering her internet personality.
iCarly begins with its first episode, where Carly (played by Miranda Cosgrove) explains the return of her web show after her relationship went horribly wrong. With her ex-boyfriend’s new web show, together with the latter’s new girlfriend, airing on the internet, Carly felt the need to compete, encouraging her to revive the online series. The web show’s first episode involves Carly trying out a new skincare routine with her brother, Spencer, who is now a rich bachelor that frequently wears a fancy robe and lives in the same, though renovated, loft.
The first three episodes also explain a brief backstory of what happened in the past ten years, showing a snippet of Carly’s life in college with Harper, and explaining Freddie’s relationship with Millicent.
Produced by Nickelodeon Studios and Awesomeness, along with executive producers Jay Kogen, Ali Schouten, and Miranda Cosgrove, iCarly is set to create a buzz across the entertainment realm, knocking on the hearts of many fans and individuals around the globe. iCarly is now showing on Paramount Plus, with future episodes airing every Thursday.
