Study Findings on Airport Security Wait Times
A recent analysis by PlanetWare, a travel industry publisher, has placed Miami International Airport at the forefront in Florida for having the shortest average security screening duration. As travelers prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, they can expect an average wait of just 10.4 minutes, positioning Miami International Airport sixth in the United States for the shortest wait times.
The study, which was published last month, drew on data from iFly, an organization that tracks flight volumes and TSA staffing levels to estimate hourly wait times. PlanetWare compiled this data, focusing on the peak period of 11:00 to 12:00 over a week, to calculate the average wait times. Out of more than 200 airports, 171 had sufficient data to be considered in the study. The final ranking was determined by comparing the 31 busiest U.S. airports based on passenger volume.
In addition to this distinction, Miami International Airport is recognized as the fastest-growing ‘mega airport’ in the United States in terms of seat capacity, with over 30 million annual passengers. Since the pandemic, the airport has seen a record-breaking influx of 50.7 million passengers in 2022, a 10% increase from 2019, and continues to experience growth in 2023.
Furthermore, the J.D. Power 2023 North America Airport Satisfaction StudySM, released in September, ranked Miami International Airport as the top ‘mega airport’ in Florida and fourth among the busiest airports in the U.S. and Canada, underscoring its commitment to passenger satisfaction and efficiency.
