In the 1920s, a Latvian immigrant named Edward Leedskalnin, heartbroken after his 16-year-old fiancée broke off their engagement, embarked on a seemingly impossible project. Working alone, mostly at night and under the cover of secrecy, he somehow quarried, moved, and sculpted over 1,100 tons of coral rock into an elaborate structure he mysteriously referred to as his “Sweet Sixteen.”

What makes Coral Castle so astounding isn’t just its size, but the almost unbelievable circumstances surrounding its creation. Leedskalnin, a slight man with only a fourth-grade education, had no modern machinery or known helpers.
