Mark and Jessica Zuckier, owners of the new Five Star Painting of Aventura & Hollywood Beach franchise, were already successful business people and prominent members of their community in Toronto, Canada, when they decided to uproot their family and start from scratch in Florida.

The Zuckier’s Decision to Move to the USA

“My husband had been trying to convince me to move to Florida since we started dating in 2008,” Jessica remembers. “I wasn’t ready, and the plans were put on hold. However, the lockdowns during COVID-19 made him reflect again on his future, our family’s future, and how the move to Florida would provide us all with great opportunities.”

The Zuckiers weighed many factors while making the decision. Jessica explains. “We felt there was a lot more opportunity here, no state tax, beautiful weather, and no snow to shovel!” 

It took Mark a few years to convince Jessica, but a family vacation to Florida clinched the deal. “I was hooked,” Jessica says. “After that, it took about a year to buy the franchise, sell our home, get our visa, and move to Florida. I wish we had moved sooner, and I thank Mark every day for convincing me to make the move!”

The Zuckiers arrived in their new home in Florida in April 2024. However, it would be an understatement to say that coming to America was easy.

Overcoming Obstacles on Their Way to America

“It ended up taking much longer than we anticipated to make the move. We had some unexpected delays with processing our paperwork and visa. Luckily, we were super organized, and our belongings were already packed. Once we got our visas, we moved within a week!”

Yet, upon arriving in Florida, the Zuckiers faced an entirely new set of challenges. “We had to do everything from buying our cars, getting our Florida drivers’ licenses, moving into a new home, placing our kids in new schools, and finding our way in our new neighborhood,” Jessica recalls.

As if those challenges weren’t enough, the Zuckiers also needed to start their new business from scratch.

Mark has over 20 years of experience in sales and owned his own e-commerce company for most of that time, while Jessica has over 20 years of experience in marketing. Still, getting their new Five Star Painting location off the ground in Aventura and Hollywood Beach wasn’t easy.
