LONDON – Fitness personality Marcus Brown has taken an unconventional path to professional wrestling, following a months-long journey that led him deep into the mountains of China to train with Shaolin monks before ultimately signing with WWE.
Brown, who first gained visibility through his association with Gymshark, stepped away from public life for several months in what he has since described as a personal and physical transformation unlike anything he had previously experienced.
A Search That Spanned Countries
According to Brown, the journey to find authentic Shaolin training was neither planned nor straightforward.
Relying solely on word-of-mouth directions, he traveled across multiple regions, beginning in Guangzhou before being directed to Chongqing, then Shenzhen, and later Thailand, where he reportedly met an individual who guided him back into China’s Guangdong province.
From there, Brown says he was introduced to a man named Liu Bien, who led him on a six-hour trek up a remote mountain to reach a temple.
Even upon arrival, Brown was not immediately accepted.
He states that he waited outside the temple for over a day, through the night and into the following afternoon, before monks acknowledged his presence and allowed him to stay, interpreting his persistence as a sign of commitment.

Months of Isolation and Extreme Discipline
Brown remained at the temple for approximately four and a half months, during which he describes enduring physically and mentally demanding conditions.
With no shared language, he reports that no one at the temple spoke English, Brown spent extended periods in complete silence, often communicating only with himself.
He claims that daily routines involved prolonged meditation sessions, sometimes lasting until he physically collapsed from exhaustion and lack of food or water. Following these sessions, he described being unable to move, stating that his body would “seize up,” leaving him only able to lie still and breathe.
The experience, he says, pushed him beyond previously understood physical and mental limits.
“There were moments where I was pushed to complete physical failure,” Brown said in a recent statement, describing training that resulted in simultaneous physical exhaustion responses. “That’s where I realized how far the human body can actually go.”
Claims of Unexplainable Practices
Brown has also spoken about witnessing what he described as “unexplainable” abilities demonstrated by the monks.

“I can’t fully describe it,” he said. “It felt like genuine magic, but the kind we don’t question, like how we accept technology without understanding it.”
While such claims remain subjective and unverifiable, they form a notable part of Brown’s account of the experience.
Physical Toll and Medical Concerns
Following his return, Brown reportedly underwent medical evaluation, during which he was described as experiencing significant psychological strain after months of isolation.
He also sustained notable physical wear, including head trauma that temporarily delayed his clearance to begin wrestling training.
Only recently, Brown announced he had been medically cleared to proceed, allowing him to officially begin preparation within WWE’s performance system.
Transition to WWE
Brown has since signed with WWE and is currently training under established industry figures, marking a shift from independent fitness influence to structured sports entertainment.
Observers note that his prior discipline, combined with the intensity of his Shaolin experience, may translate into a unique in-ring presence.
Physically, Brown is often described as exceptionally conditioned, with a level of endurance and output that has drawn both attention and skepticism within fitness circles. He has publicly dismissed speculation regarding performance enhancement, attributing his physique to extreme training capacity.
“People assume limits based on what they’ve experienced,” he said. “They don’t realize what’s actually possible.”
A Defining Transformation
Brown’s time away from the public eye appears to have been a turning point, one defined by isolation, discipline, and an attempt to push beyond conventional limits.
His return, culminating in a WWE contract, signals the beginning of a new phase in his career, one shaped not only by visibility, but by the intensity of the process that led him there.
