Many artists strive to succeed in the music industry for various reasons. Often they are looking to pursue their passion and occasionally admit to pursuing a certain kind of lifestyle. Still, some want to reach a higher platform to share their story to relate to their listeners, inspiring them and instilling a belief that they too can overcome anything. Up-and-coming artist JD is among the latter, having gone through many endeavors to fulfill his dream of making it in music.
The rising artist spent his childhood between Kentucky and Florida until his dad left the family when JD was eight years old, leaving his mother to take care of him and his two siblings. From there, he lived everywhere, from the backwoods to trailer parks and hole-in-the-wall bars, clubs, and big cities. JD always stayed on the right side of the tracks despite his background. Then one of the biggest tragedies struck in the last couple of years.
“I lost my sister a few years back,” he shared. “Which opened my eyes up to, I guess you can say, the big picture of my life.”
It was then that he decided to pursue his greatest passion, music. Growing up, JD listened to a colorful roster of artists that included Van Halen, Motley Crew, Garth Brooks, Beastie Boys, and Tupac, to name a few. He learned to live life his own way throughout his youth and never back down from anyone or anything, traits that he would absorb into his music career.
As JD started to work toward his goal, people could see how he became a better writer and lyricist, bringing his own style to the industry. His music style has been described as southern hip-hop and even country rap, which amuses him.
“Whatever you choose to call it in the end, I feel like I’m just telling my life story the only way I know how,” he said.
When JD first set out into music, he had a lot of qualities to polish. But, while others would have been discouraged, the rising artist’s work ethic drove him to keep working on his craft to be better. Eventually, the hard work paid off tremendously. Another impressive characteristic of JDs is his outspoken personality.
“I’m very upfront about things and don’t hold back,” explained the rising artist. “If I feel a certain way, then that’s what it is. I call things for what it is. I’m very goal-oriented as well. I tend to set a lot of goals for myself, whether it’s music, financially, or mentally. I push to be a better man than the day I was before. I tend to take a lot of pride in meeting all of my goals, as everyone should.”
As an artist, JD strives to bring honesty to his music. With many rappers writing about things they never experienced, the rising artist tries to touch people with his stories, writing about what he’s been through. Additionally, JD was inspired to take his career seriously after the birth of his daughter, instilling a desire to create a legacy for her when he’s gone.
