According to US media, actress Jerry Hall and media tycoon Rupert Murdoch are divorcing.
For 91-year-old Mr. Murdoch, this would be his fourth divorce. Former Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was Ms. Hall’s first husband.
Mr. Murdoch and Ms. Hall’s aides have not yet responded to a request for comment about their 2016 marriage at home in the heart of London.
The New York Times reports that their breakup surprises the family’s close friends and relatives.
Anonymous sources with knowledge of the split were quoted by both that newspaper and the Washington Post.
In the past, it was reported that Mr. Murdoch was spending more time with his new wife. Mr. Murdoch is the owner of the News Corporation, which owns major media sites like Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and The Sun in the UK and the US.
The millionaire tweeted that he was “the luckiest AND happiest man in the world” and that he would quit posting on the social media site at the time of his marriage.
In 2018, Lachlan, his older son, was chosen to take over. Murdoch also gave the Walt Disney Company the majority of 21st Century Fox.
The couple has been seen together in private and frequently been out in public.
At his 90th birthday party the previous year, Ms. Hall was reportedly seen “doting” on her husband, according to the New York Times.
The Texas model-turned-actress had previously been in a committed relationship with Mr. Jagger, with whom she had four children. In 1990, the couple exchanged vows in a Hindu ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. Less than ten years later, in the London High Court of Justice, the marriage was declared null and void.
