Ruchir Gupta isn’t just a designer; he’s a multidisciplinary creative professional who bridges creativity and innovation to develop meaningful, real-world solutions. Working under the alias Mundane Everyday®, he channels his expertise into industrial and product design, design research, furniture design, and installation art. With over a decade of experience and a portfolio that spans continents, Ruchir is one of the leading emerging talents transforming how we experience objects, spaces, and problem-solving through design.
Professionally, Ruchir has worn many hats. He is an accomplished Industrial Designer and entrepreneur specializing in technology integration, usability, IoT, and wearable technology. As the Product Designer on the team that built the world’s first haptic shoe, ‘Lechal’, Ruchir made waves in assistive technology and inclusive design. He’s also completed over 150 projects through his design consultancy, collaborating with researchers and practitioners from top-tier R&D teams and organizations like MIT Media Lab spin-off startups, AARP, Space10, Think Tank Team, the Empathic Computing Lab (University of Auckland), DEL Lab, and OYO.
Among his accolades, in 2014 and 2019, Ruchir was a selected participant at LEGO’s International Design Camp at DesignSkolen Kolding. His ability to contribute meaningfully to both academic and industry-based R&D programs has positioned him as a thought leader across multiple fields.
Currently, he serves as the Industrial Designer of the Prototype Lab at Groundswell Startups and plays a vital role in directing the processes from beginning to end. Ruchir started as an intern at Groundswell Startups. In just a year and a half, he’s impacted the startup ecosystem on the Space Coast, leading product innovation and bridging gaps between ideas and execution, with access to a state-of-the-art Prototype Lab located at Groundswell Startups. Ruchir empowers first-time founders and innovators to transform concepts into tangible, scalable solutions. He is also the liaison for Groundswell’s active partnerships, including his alma mater, the Florida Institute of Technology, where he plays a key role.
Ruchir uses his skills by consistently turning ideas into well-crafted, impactful creations. His choice to operate under his brand name, Mundane Everyday®, reflects his ethos:
“The most overlooked elements of our daily lives deserve thoughtful reinvention.”
Ruchir’s work is rooted in his upbringing as a third-generation creative, shaped by his early exposure to design across India, Denmark, and Italy. Now deeply immersed in the ever-evolving design and technology landscape, he continues to absorb cultural nuances that influence his creative output and perspective. His international lens allows him to see common challenges through a fresh framework, putting the user at the center of the product development lifecycle.
One of Ruchir’s defining traits is his insatiable curiosity. He has learned from every culture he’s immersed himself in, be it through language, tradition, or design aesthetics, and those insights are evident in everything he builds. His philosophy embodies the idea that people are products of their past, who understand life in retrospect and live it forward. Ruchir is always looking for ways to merge the lessons of the past with the promises of the future.
Ruchir is an avid member of the community he has helped create. He is grateful and credits the Groundswell Startups team, board members, staff, mentors, and collaborators, who’ve supported Ruchir’s rapid rise. Their backing has helped him build a platform where design meets purpose. He credits his open-minded and receptive nature for his success, embracing praise and critique to refine his craft. He also wants to highlight the supportive community that has allowed him to pursue experimental, meaningful work in an environment that values innovation and progress.
If you ever catch Ruchir speaking at an event or chatting at a networking mixer, chances are he’ll be deep in conversation about the things he’s most passionate about. The list of passions includes industrial design, human-centered R&D, and the future of product development. He draws inspiration not only from the generations of designers and architects in his immediate family line, he also learns from leaders like Brian Chesky (Airbnb) and Jonathan Ive (Apple), who exemplify how design shapes the world. To them, he’d say, “Your work opened doors for creatives like me to believe in the global power of design.”
Most of Ruchir’s day-to-day focus is on amplifying the impact of Groundswell’s Prototype Lab and extending its reach through more collaborations and community-driven initiatives. As someone who has successfully transitioned from an international designer to a U.S.-based leader in innovation, he continues to design products that reflect a global perspective fused with forward-thinking ingenuity. His next chapter involves improving the lab and making it an even more powerful space for future creators to experiment, iterate, and launch. Whether you’re a founder needing product support, a brand seeking a creative partner, or someone who appreciates thoughtful design, Ruchir is the person to follow. His craft is a balance between rigorous design thinking and proven processes, bold ideas, and the humble materials that bring them to life.
