Hannah Scrivens’ fascination with space began at age five when she witnessed her first space shuttle launch. This moment sparked a lifelong passion for space exploration. At age 7, she visited Kennedy Space Center and had the opportunity to meet former astronauts and learn about NASA’s spaceflight programs. These experiences further fueled her dream of becoming an astronaut, setting her on a path to study aerospace engineering.
Hannah’s Journey into Aerospace
Hannah’s interest in aviation developed at age ten when she took a discovery flight with an Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) pilot. She was captivated by the freedom that pilots have to travel far distances alone or with others. This passion for aviation grew stronger, mainly when she learned that many astronauts were also pilots. As a result, Hannah began taking flight lessons in high school and earned her private pilot’s license by graduation, further solidifying her commitment to pursuing a career in aerospace.
Pursuing Higher Education in Aerospace Engineering
Hannah chose to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology, where she focused on astronautics. Along the way, she discovered flight test engineering, a field dedicated to testing and certifying the performance of aircraft and spacecraft. While being a pilot is not a requirement to become a flight test engineer, it is a beneficial skill. Hannah was drawn to the field’s hands-on nature, which led her to pursue a master’s degree in flight test engineering. In 2024, she completed her degree with a thesis on testing Florida Tech’s electric airplane—a key area of study for the future of sustainable aviation.
Getting Involved in Space Operations
Living near Florida’s Space Coast, Hannah is excited about the growing opportunities in space exploration. With NASA’s Artemis lunar missions on the horizon and private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin pushing the boundaries of space travel, the aerospace field is expanding rapidly. Hannah aims to contribute to these efforts and is eager to apply her knowledge and skills to future space operations. As a passionate aerospace engineer, she is dedicated to advancing space exploration and sustainable aviation technologies.
Giving Back to the Community: Volunteering with EAA
Beyond her academic and professional aspirations, Hannah is committed to giving back to her community. She volunteers with the EAA Chapter 74, mentoring aspiring aviators and engineers. This organization played a pivotal role in guiding her career path, and she now seeks to provide the same support and inspiration to the next generation. By sharing her knowledge and experiences, Hannah hopes to inspire others to pursue aerospace, aviation, and engineering careers.
Hannah’s Core Values
Hannah’s professional journey is shaped by her core values: reliability, hope, and faith. She understands that being reliable fosters trust and creates stronger partnerships. Hope drives her to push the boundaries of what’s possible, while faith keeps her grounded in her purpose. Hannah believes her work can make the world a better place, and her commitment to these values helps her navigate professional challenges and opportunities confidently.
Creative Passion Beyond Aerospace
In addition to her technical skills, Hannah is a creative individual. She enjoys making jewelry, arranging music, and designing and 3D printing personal projects in her free time. These innovative activities balance her analytical work and allow her to express herself outside the technical realm. Whether crafting new jewelry pieces or exploring new 3D printing designs, these hobbies help Hannah maintain a well-rounded and innovative mindset.
Driven by Shared Passion
Hannah shares her journey with her twin sister, Lydia Scrivens, who is also passionate about aerospace. Like Hannah, Lydia graduated from Florida Institute of Technology, earning a Master’s degree in Flight Test Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Astronautics. The sisters’ shared interests in space exploration and aviation have fueled their pursuits, and their close bond continues to drive them toward success in their respective careers.
A Future of Exploration and Inspiration
Hannah Scrivens is a skilled aerospace engineer with a passion for space exploration. Her journey—from a young child inspired by a space shuttle launch to her current role as a flight test engineer—reflects her dedication and perseverance. By pursuing her dream and staying true to her values, she aims to inspire others to follow their aspirations, no matter how unattainable they may seem. Through her work, Hannah is helping to shape the future of aerospace, space exploration, and sustainable aviation, all while inspiring the next generation of engineers and explorers.
